A new internet-only format shook up the 2016 Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Yearling Sale, making it easier than ever to make yearling Paints eligible for elite performance opportunities and more than $50,000 in payouts as part of the Farnam Pleasure Stakes program. The sale’s 35 consigned horses didn’t have to leave the comfort of home, as bidders from around the world logged onto their computers and placed bids in the competitive-yet-convenient online atmosphere Nov. 2–7.

Batt Love was the 2016 sale’s high-selling horse, capturing a final bid of $6,500. A 2015 bay tobiano mare by Batt Man (AQHA) and out of Date Gone Bad, Batt Love was bred and consigned by Angela Finegan of Forest Grove, Oregon, and purchased by Karen DiBenedetti of California.

Sellers were given the option to place reserve prices on their consignments or to require seller confirmation of the final price, which gave them 24 hours to accept or deny the final bid. When it was all said and done, three horses were sold with a sale average of $4,900*. The sale yielded a gross income of $58,334—nearly $29,000 of which goes right back into the Farnam Stakes purses in 2017.

All of the horses who went through this year’s Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Yearling Sale become qualified to compete for more than $50,000 in the corresponding Farnam Pleasure Stakes Classes in 2017, 2018 and 2019:

• Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure—includes a Limited Division
• Farnam 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle—includes a Limited Division
• Farnam Non-Pro 3- & 4-Year-Old Western Pleasure
• Farnam Non-Pro 3- & 4-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle
