Lauren Crivelli has a routine she sticks to as she prepares to enter the show arena to compete. She’s impossible to talk to so don’t even try. She’s in her “zone.”

“I get so focused on the way my horse is feeling and the way I want them to feel in the arena that I zone out to the rest of the world completely,” she said.

This year Crivelli has been showing Bringin Booty Back, a 2012 sorrel mare by El Carrera Del Gallo and out of Magnum Chic Dream, in Ranch classes. She also has a new show partner in Extremely Good Stuff, a 2013 red roan gelding by Extremely Hot Chips and out of Shes Got Thegoodstuf.

“Booty was supposed to be my NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) Futurity horse in 2015 but life took us in a different direction and she has surpassed all expectations in the Ranch Versatility arena,” Crivelli said.

In August Crivelli and Booty captured a Reserve Championship in Ranch Riding at the National Snaffle Bit Association’s World Championship Show and a Reserve in the Ranch Trail Stakes Class. They are competing in Ranch Riding at the American Quarter Horse Association’s World Show this month and Crivelli plans to add Showmanship and Horsemanship for next year.

“She is one of the smartest horses I have ridden,” Crivelli said. “If you show her how to do something one time, she will remember and try to do it right each time. She is a great horse that makes riding fun.”

Over the summer, Crivelli’s trainers, Ryan and Andrea Kail, were looking for a new all-around partner for her and heard about a red roan gelding with Kenny and Ashley Lakins that the Ohio trainers called Red Rooster.

“We flew out to try him and I absolutely fell in love with him,” she said. “I hadn’t ridden a Trail horse in five years and he had never been over poles in his life, but I went ahead and took him over a few and it was so easy! I knew he was the one after that.”

Extremely Good Stuff was purchased and in August at the NSBA World Show they made their debut in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure, capturing a Reserve title.

They were Top 10 in the 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure and Novice Amateur Western Pleasure at the Quarter Horse Congress last month and Crivelli hopes to make the finals in Amateur Trail at the 2017 AQHA World Show (which she says will be tough since he needs to learn it and become qualified first!

“Rooster is the sweetest horse I have ever had the pleasure of working with,” she said. “He loves to place his head in your arms and have you hold him. He also really likes junk food!”

Crivelli, 24, was born in Fresno, California, and attended Elbow Creek and Golden West High School. She was active in FFA Leadership, High School Virtual Business Academy, Tulare Country Farm Bureau Young Leadership Program and served as president of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Youth Association.

Her parents, Jeff and Cherie Crivelli both showed horses and introduced their daughter and son, Garrett, to horses at an early age.

“They wanted us to be involved with horses so whenever we visited my grandparents, we would spend time grooming and riding the horses,” Lauren said. “We craved those visits and eventually purchased our own horse, a Pinto named Mr Whisper Whizard. As you know, you can never have just one horse, our passion and horse collection grew from there!”

Over the years Lauren has had the opportunity to show such decorated horses as Floating On Assets and Huntin For You in all-around events as well as Rebas Best Step Yet and Check Your Gun Lad in NRHA contests.

Following high school, Lauren attended Fresno State University, where she was a member of the Fresno State Equestrian Team and was named Western Team Captain her Junior year.

“I was also involved with the Agribusiness Marketing Team where we examined existing businesses and gave them remodeled business plans depending on competition requirements.”

In 2014 Lauren earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness with Summa Cum Laude Honors and the Agribuss Business Star Student Award Winner.

She currently lives in Visalia, California, and works in Human Resources and Public Relations for Jeff Crivelli Farming and Harvesting.

“We specialize in delivering commodities and agricultural products to the farming industry in the Central Valley of California,” she explained. “I oversee the day-to-day operations and work with employees to ensure our customers are being served to the highest level.”
