A total of 52 horses will be featured in the 2018 Findlay Spring Horse Sale. Western pleasure and all-around prospects will be showcased, as well as Hunter Under Saddle, Ranch Riding, Western Riding, Trail, Reining, and quiet lesson/4-H horses.
The sale is organized by the equine marketing class. A portion of the proceeds will go toward scholarships, along with the purchase of new prospects for equestrian students to work with in the coming semester. In 2017, the event provided approximately $40,000 toward scholarships to select UF equine students.
A demonstration of each of the sale horses will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the sale at noon.
Spencer Zimmerman, Professor of Equine Marketing and Riding Instructor said the target market for buyers will cater to anyone looking for a nice pleasure all-around prospect or someone looking for a quiet 4-H horse safe for kids to ride.
“The Findlay sale allows us to showcase our talented group of horses here at the Western Farm,” he said.
Meri Marsh, Director of the Equestrian Studies and Equine Management Programs and Riding Instructor said the most gratifying part of the sale is seeing horses get placed into homes where they will be serviceable and perhaps introducing buyers to a new interest and passion for horses.
“We have a policy here at the University where we try to maintain a high degree of integrity with our horses in our sale,” Marsh said. “Anybody that purchases a horse in our sale knows that we stand behind that horse and are very open with any kind of issue that the horse might have.”
