Longe Line competition wrapped up at the Quarter Horse Congress on Monday with Kenny Lakins winning the Open Western Longe Line for the fourth straight year – this year with How Bout That Batt. Reserve Champion was Im Pretty N Platinum, owned by Cathy Corrigan Frank and shown by Shane Pope.

How Bout That Batt, by Batt Man and out of Quiet Impulse, is owned by Pete Mead of, Washington, Indiana. Mead has been the owner of three of the past four Congress Champions shown by Lakins and all four have been sired by Batt Man. Lakins and How Bout That Batt also won the Southern Belle Futurity portion of the class, earning a total of over $3,000.

On Saturday, Mead showed How Bout That Batt to a win in the Non-Pro Western Longe Line, earning $1,390.48 and the Southern Belle Futurity part of the class, worth another $524.86.

“I am beyond excited,” Mead said after the Open Western Longe Line. “That mare (Quiet Impulse) has been very good to me.”

Quiet Impulse is also the dam of Batt Attitude, who in 2015 was the Open Western Longe Line Champion and Reserve Non-Pro Western Longe Line Champion. She is also the dam of Quiet Ride (by Batt Man) who was the 2013 Congress Open and Non-Pro Western Longe Line Champion.

In 2014 Lakins showed Im Fancy Schmancy, sired by Batt Man and out of Ima Fancy Version, to a Congress Open Western Longe Line Championship for Kim and Randy Haines.

Quiet Impulse is also the dam of Hes Plum Poison (by Diesel Only), 2011 Congress Champion Open Western Longe Line. This year she foaled a bay filly by Keepin It Good that Mead is already handling with the hopes of showing next year in Longe Line events.

As he has the past few years, Mead has consigned this year’s yearling to the Congress Super Sale. How Bout That Batt will go up for bid on Saturday.

Although it did not produce a repeat winner, the English Longe Line at the Congress did provide plenty of emotion. Wayne Davis, of Ocala, Florida could not hold back the tears as Kruzin In Style was announced as Champion, shown by Kathie Kennedy.

Wayne and his wife, Judy, raised the pretty bay filly by The Krymsun Kruzer and out of Show Me The Luv (by Too Sleepy To Zip). She earned $1,820.67 for her win in the Open Longe Line and another $363.62 for winning the Southern Belle Futurity portion of the class.

“This is her first time to show,” David said. “We hope she will be Judy’s Masters contender next year.”

On Sunday, John Lorton, of Noblesville, Indiana, showed his bay filly, Smooth Details, to a win in the Non-Pro English Longe Line at the Congress, earning $1,246.80 and another $393.65 for winning the Southern Belle Futurity portion of the class.

Lorton and Smooth Details (Lacy), sired by The Next Detail and out of Zips Smooth Sally, recently won three classes at the National Snaffle Bit Association’s World Championship Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They captured titles in Breeders Championship Futurity Non-Pro Hunter Longe Line, World Show Non-Pro Hunter Longe Line and Limited Non-Pro Hunter Longe Line.

“She was really laid back and calm,” Lorton said. “She was just her normal self. She really just takes everything in strides. She waited for all my cues and executed everything that we have been working for perfectly.”

Lorton wanted to dedicate his win to Renee and Hedy Levin, who raised his filly.

“Renee recently passed away and I want to do that to honor her memory,” he said.

He said Smooth Details was just as special to them as she is to him.

“She has such a big heart,” Lorton said. “You know, you get so emotionally attached and she is so deserving. Lacey has worked so hard and come so far this year. I just want her to be acknowledged for her hard work. After winning at Tulsa, she really couldn’t do any wrong in my eyes, so this win here is just like a dream.”
