It’s that time of year again, baby time. And the trend seems to be, post as many baby pictures as possible. Just scroll down your newsfeed on Facebook and you’ll see an abundance of fillies and colts, all different sizes, colors, and breeds. It piqued my interest and I wanted to know more about these little ones, so I went to the owners to find out.

First up, meet the offspring of VS Code Red and Wisely Zippen. The bay colt was born on Cinco de Mayo in Greenville, Ohio. Owner, Alexa Rowland hasn’t come up with a name as of now, in fact he doesn’t even have a barn name yet. Rowland explains this is the third baby they’ve been lucky enough to get from her mare, Wisely Zippen.

“She has two yearlings in addition to the one born yesterday,” Rowland said. “The yearling filly is by Lazy Loper and the yearling gelding is by Invitation Only.”

For those of you who have been lucky enough to see Wisely Zippen, aka “Lib”, she has the best floppy ears you’ve ever set eyes on. They seem to reflect her honest demeanor and personality. I wanted to know if the ears were a dominant feature.

“The funny thing is, her first baby is a clone to her,” Rowland explained. “She’s one of the yearlings I mentioned, and she has Lib’s ears.”

As for this new colt? It may be too soon to tell, but my fingers are crossed.

Apparently, the stars and planets aligned that same day because just a few hours before Lib had her baby colt, A Southern Goodbar, aka “Shirley,” gave birth to a filly by Righteous Invitation in Johnstown, Ohio. Owner Audra Kaser, already has big plans for her new filly, Laverne.

“We are raising her for my 2-year-old daughter, Meghan. If she turns out to be a good one, she will definitely stay with us,” Kaser said. “With the great bloodlines, I have a good feeling that she will be a nice one.”

A Southern Goodbar has been Kaser’s show horse since she purchased her as a 2-year-old in 2005. When asked if this new mom has any more babies in her future, Kaser thought a moment, and said she loves Lazy Loper and dreamt about that match since they bought her.

What an exciting time in any owner’s life. I hope to be seeing a mini Lazy Loper soon.

Chelsea Caudill has been keeping us updated via Facebook on the progress of her new filly, Princess. Born on April 22, 2013, at MTR Performance Horses, in Akron, Indiana, Princess is by a son of Radical Rodder, Me Too Radical, and out of I May Get Lucky. According to Caudill, Princess already has four teeth and is getting cuter by the day.

“She’s our first filly, we’ve always gotten colts,” Caudill explained. “I haven’t picked out a registered name yet, but I’m hoping to put a little personality in it.”

Well, with a name like Princess, I wouldn’t expect anything less.

This is the beautiful “Jasmine”. Jasmine is a grulla filly sired by the upcoming stallion, Nite Moves and out of World Champion producing mare, Chips Precious Jewel. She was bred and is owned by Seehafer Quarter Horses in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

“We can not be more thrilled with this exquisite filly,” Nikki Seehafer said. “Jasmine was a dream come true for us and we hope to show the world how very special she is.”

She has some very big shoes to fill as her half sister out of the same dam is a World Champion and multiple Reserve World Champion and her half brother will be shown this year at the ABRA World Show in the 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure.

Finally, Tina Wooddell of Bridgeport, West Virginia, sent us a picture of this super flashy colt by Certain Potential and out of Rather Be Radical. “Ledger” was born on March 9, 2013 at Sky Ten Ranch.

“We are so excited about this little guy,” Wooddell said. “He is an absolute ham for the camera.”

Ledger’s half sister by VS Code Red, Im Sexy And I Knowit, will take to the arena this fall in the Coughlin 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure at the Congress with Brent Tincher in the saddle.
