Tom Powers, founder of the Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity, the longest continuously-running futurity in the country, has announced that next year’s event will be held at the World Equestrian Center, Wilmington, Ohio.
“After 35 years we can no longer depend on Berrien Springs to provide a suitable environment to continue our futurity,” Powers said. “I am disappointed to leave but can no longer expect you to support us there. Your loyalty has been extraordinary.”
Powers said that some exhibitors will say “it’s about time” and others will say “Berrien is special.”
“You are probably both correct but I can no longer accept the risk,” Powers explained. “We are committed as always to provide big purses, friendly staff and great judges.”
The quality of the facilities at the World Equestrian Center was what drew Powers to Ohio.
“It has excellent arenas, footing, stalls, restaurants and camping,” Powers said. “They are determined to provide a first class experience for our event. We hope you will join us there for our anniversary.”
