Exhibitors spent most of the day Wednesday moving in, bathing horses and prepping for the Lucky Seven Classic Quarter Horse Show Circuit, which starts off Thursday morning with Western Pleasure classes in Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Hosted by the Tennessee Quarter Horse Association, the four-day circuit boasted over 5,000 entries last year and organizers say they hope a revised, exhibitor-friendly schedule and a $350 inclusive fee (which covers entries, AQHA drug and office fees and one stall) will attract even more this year.
“Stalls at this show exploded,” says Show Manager Patrick Kayser. “We should be up 200 stalls over last year. We are pleasantly surprised that so many trainers chose to come here this year.”
Competitors traveled from as far away as Florida and Texas to compete.
“This is going to be a big horse show,” says Saul Sliss, who is here with his family and customers from Gainesville, Texas for the event.
Masterson Farms of Sommerville, Tennessee brought five 2-year-olds to the show to get accustomed to the activity.
“This is such a nice facility,” says Ken Masterson.
A pizza party welcomed exhibitors to the show Wednesday evening but in the morning things get serious when Horsemanship, Western Riding and Ranch Pleasure competition follow the Western Pleasure.
On Friday the Coliseum will be busy starting with Pleasure Driving at 8 a.m., followed by Halter classes. The arena will then be closed for jump set up and the afternoon’s competition includes over fences classes, Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation.
Judges for this year’s show include: Nancy Alto-Renfro, Rick Christy, Holly Hover, Will Knabenshue, Judd Paul and Russ Smith.
