Jessica Johnson of Pickerington, Ohio, brought home the Congress trophy Sunday evening in the Congress Hunter Classic riding Art Of The Deal for owner Natalie Vargo.
The Hunter Classic is set up with two rounds, in the first round the top 15 highest scores advance to round two were your score from both rounds are added together to get your final score.
In the first go around Johnson and Art Of The Deal scored a 166 putting them in second place going into the finals. Clean and consistent was Jessica’s plan of attack for the finals and she did just that and more and walked out of the arena with a score of 164 which was the highest placing score in round two.
With a combine score of 330, Jessica and Art Of Deal were named Congress Champion winning a paycheck of $2,932.80. Jessica won the Hunter Classic for the first time in 2012. Jessica also rode ATM for her mom Barbara Johnson and ended up forth overall with a score of 312.
Reserve Champion was Linda Crothers of Hernando, Florida riding Go Big Sky for owner Rodger Call. Linda scored a 161 in round one and a 159 in round two with a combine score of 320.
Samantha Roper teamed with Only Royal Blue to win the Non-Pro Working Hunter Classic, earning $2,992.60. Its My Lucky Detail was Reserve with Madison Eichstadt in the irons.
Earlier in the day Crothers captured a Congress Championship in Green Working Hunter in a tough class of 43 entries aboard Jetset On Cruz for owner Susan Cannan.
A total of 55 competed in the Progressive Working Hunter with Envious Invitation taking the top prize with Alfred Hewitt in the irons.
Tyson Furlong piloted Lasting Exposure to victory in Junior Working Hunter for owner Kayleen Holiday. A total of 17 competed.
Novice Amateur Equitation Over Fences drew 33 entries with Gretchen Ross riding A Thumbs Up Ride to victory.
Mallory Myers and Stroke For Stroke won the 14-18 Youth Working Hunter while Abigail Hardy teamed with Vision Of Art to win the 13 & Under Working Hunter.
