Shoe management was notified at Gordyville that 2 cases of EHV-1 were diagnosed after the Midwest Reining Horse Association, May 2-3, 2015 show and both horses were from the same stable. One horse was successfully treated and one horse was humanely euthanized. We are cancelling the Illinois Quarter Horse Association Youth shows, May 15-17, 2015. Exhibitors will be notified this week of the future status of shows scheduled. We are conferring with the State of Illinois, University of Illinois, AQHA, NBHA, NRHA and the Illinois PHA about the measures we will take in stopping the spread of this illness in horses. The association that rented the facility has contacted the exhibitors that were present at that show. The facility will be disinfected with appropriate actions. We encourage everyone to not travel with horses until the recommended time has passed and deemed safe and horses asymptomatic. Everyone needs to confer with their veterinarian on preventing/treating EHV-1. The welfare of our horses and exhibitors is our main concern and we will remain transparent.
