The Congress 2-Year-Old Masters Hunter Under Saddle and Western Pleasure events will take center stage at the All American Quarter Horse Congress tonight in the Celeste Arena.
A total of 12 maiden horses will trot in to vie for the Hunter Under Saddle title starting at 7 p.m.
Carmen Mayabb, Dacula, Georgia, will be riding Al Get Your Shine On. Her customers, Travis and Nikki McColley purchased the brown stallion by Allocate Your Assets and out of Shining Detail as a weanling and he won the Southern Belle portion of the English Longe Line at the Congress last year.
“He can be quite mischievous on the ground but is very easy and quiet to ride,” Mayabb said. “He’s a good trotter, a great loper and a ton of fun. I’m very excited about showing him tonight.”
Mayabb said to win tonight she’s going to need a solid performance.
“It’s a big deal and the best horses will come to the top for sure,” she said. “Consistent and good rides are what we are all hoping for.”
Alysse Roberts of Tuttle, Oklahoma, will be riding Charismatic Style, a bay mare, by Blazing N Style and out of Charismatic Kate.
Roberts’ customer, Gemma Kaye-Hudson from Arizona, owns Blazing N Style and raised Charismatic Style. Her friend, Laurie Roden, also from Arizona, purchased her as a weanling.
“She’s a phenomenal trotter,” Roberts said. “I think it will take a horse that is great legged and is equally good in its topline to win,

Western Pleasure
After a new Hunter Under Saddle Masters Champion is crowned, 18 Western Pleasure 2-year-olds are slated to compete.
Shane Dowdy will be riding It’s a Pretty Thing for Gumz Farms, Morganfield, Kentucky. She is one of only five 2-year-olds sired by It’s a Southern Thing (Moonpie).
“Callie is the result of the only outside mare bred that first year,” said Amy Gumz. “I knew this was a great filly from the start. I tried to buy her shortly after she was born. The purchase took me a year and a half to get accomplished.”
Callie was first sent to a colt breaker in January to get started and a few months later Dowdy stopped by to take a look.
“He obviously must have liked her as he promptly put her in the trailer and took her home,” Gumz said. “So when he tells people that he stole her, that would be a true statement.”
Gumz said Callie has a lot of attributes.
“She has been very trainable and very easy,” she said. “Plus it doesn’t hurt that she’s so darn pretty. She’s incredibly athletic and balanced.”
