Sharnai Thompson of Cornelius, North Carolina rode Rock County Kid, a 2011 bay gelding sired by Good I Will Be and out of JDZ Madison County to a victory in the Non-Pro 3 & Over $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Class held Tuesday evening at A Little Futurity in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Thompson collected a check for $9,920, presented at the exit gate, for her victory.
Reserve Champion in the class went to The Only Leading Lady shown by Ty Paris for Beckey Schooler of Delta, Ohio. Paris took home a check for $7,440 for her title.
Eleven horses competed for prize money and to throw competitors a curve, show manager Larry Little called upon Tony Burris and Steve Meadows to join Betsy Tuckey and John Dean in the middle of the pen for this class.
“I wanted to give each competitor a fresh set of eyes so I brought in two new judges tonight,” says Little. “I thought it was really positive to have an unbiased perspective and the crowd seemed to agree, and you know I like to shake things up a bit.”
Aron Moses won the random drawing for a Harris work saddle and he clearly was surprised and thrilled to win such an awesome prize.
