The American Quarter Horse Association Awards Presentation and American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Inductions banquets are just two of the many must-see events at the 2016 AQHA Convention, March 11-14 at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
AQHA invites members to attend a fun and exciting convention this year. New at the convention, attendees are invited to the equine industry small-business workshop and industry town hall meeting.
The equine industry small-business workshop, brought to you by the Certified Horsemanship Association, Merial and the AQHA Professional Horsemen’s Council, is from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 11. All horsemen and small-business owners are encouraged to attend. Later that day, a town hall meeting focusing on industry issues will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Convention attendees are invited to weigh in on hard-hitting issues in the equine industry.
While you are in Las Vegas, you won’t want to miss the President’s Reception which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on March 11. On March 12, the top athletes from around the world will be recognized at 6:30 p.m during the Awards Presentation. AQHA will recognize the 2015 AQHA Markel Insurance all-around youth, AQHA Farnam all-around amateur, all-around junior horse, all-around senior horse and world champion racing American Quarter Horse, along with the AQHA year-end high-point award winners. The Professional’s Choice Don Burt Professional Horseman of the Year, Professional’s Choice Professional Horsewoman of the Year and Professional’s Choice Most Valuable Professional will also be revealed at the banquet.
Then on March 13, watch as legendary horsemen and horses are inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame at the Hall of Fame Banquet. The horses to be inducted are the stallions Mr Gun Smoke, Parker’s Trouble and Zantanon; the geldings Van Decka and Vandy’s Flash, and the Thoroughbred mare Woven Web. The men are AQHA Past President Johannes Orgeldinger of Germany; the late Paul Curtner of Jacksboro, Texas; Sunny Jim Orr of Pueblo, Colorado; and Ben Hudson of Morgan Mill, Texas.
