AQHA and NSBA World and Congress Champion Knockin It Out has been sold to Richard and Betty Carr of Bremen, Indiana and will now be under the guidance of Gil Galyean Quarter Horses, Purcell, Oklahoma.
Bred by Kathryn Frederick, Ocala, Florida, Knockin It Out (Pippa) is a 2016 sorrel mare, sired by No Doubt Im Lazy and is the last filly out of Congress Reserve Champion, Zippin The Breeze, the all-time leading producer of Western Pleasure money earners, according to Robin Glenn Pedigrees. Her foals have over $602,117 in lifetime earnings; $364,602.74 in NSBA earnings; $34,961.22 in AQHA Incentive Fund earnings; and $44,615.55 in AQHA World Championship Show earnings. They have earned two Open and two Amateur AQHA World Championships; one Open and two Reserve AQHA World Championship titles; three Open AQHA High Point wins and earned over 4,674 AQHA points.
With Florida trainer Katy Jo Zuidema in the saddle, Knockin It Out started out the 2019 show season by winning the Kim Rich Memorial Western Pleasure at the Georgia On My Mind circuit in April, earning $3,811. Zuidema’s assistant, Stephanie Armellini, piloted Pippa to a Reserve Championship in the Premier Sires 3-Year-Old Limited Horse Limited Rider Western Pleasure at the March To The Arch, earning another $6,250 and Zuidema rode her to a Reserve Championship in the Premier Sires 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure there, adding another $810 to the mare’s earnings.
In May, Knockin It Out and Katy Jo collected $15,000 for winning the Novice Horse Western Pleasure at the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association’s Madness Circuit in Wilmington, Ohio. They also pocketed $1,264 for winning the Open 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure there.
In August, Katy Jo and Pippa “knocked it out” at the National Snaffle Bit Association’s World Championship Show in Tulsa winning two World Championship titles and a Breeders Championship Futurity class. There they won the 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure earning $1,182.30; the Green Western Pleasure, collecting $817.70; and the Breeders Championship Futurity 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure, worth $2,223.76.
Then, at the 2019 Quarter Horse Congress Zuidema and Knockin It Out won the Level 1 Open Western Pleasure and were Reserve Champions in the 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure, earning $5,841.12 and a month later, at the 2019 AQHA World Championship Show they collected the gold trophy in the Level 1 Western Pleasure Stakes and a bronze in the L3 Junior Western Pleasure.
“We have had our eye on Knockin It Out for many months now and have admired her ability and all the success she had in the show pen last year,” said Betty Carr. “It is becoming increasingly difficult to find horses that have the capability to show at the level we compete and we think she is just that kind of horse. We are thrilled to own her and excited to get to show her. But equally important to us is her strong maternal line. We are dedicated breeders and it was especially important to me that my next show partner be a mare with the long-term potential to become an outstanding broodmare.”
Betty Carr has most recently been showing OHK Goodbars Krymsun (Riley), a 2009 sorrel mare by One Hot Krymsun and out of Goodbars Glory in Non-Pro Maturities and Amateur Select Western Pleasure. Both she and Richard have had tremendous success with Riley and she will now be added to the Carr’s breeding program.
“We are very excited for Rich and Betty and feel fortunate that they continue to put their faith in us to prepare their horses,” said Gil Galyean. “Betty saw that mare and liked her and we do too. You just don’t often find a mare that is as great a mover as she is. She is a great jogger and great loper and just as good in the front as the back loping. We are very excited to be getting her into our program.”
Galyean credited Katy Jo and Tim Zuidema with providing the mare with a strong training base which he said was instrumental in her being able to achieve all the success she had in the show pen last year.
“Betty will show her this year and we will show her in some open classes at major events and ultimately the Carrs will be raising babies out of her,” Galyean said. “We would like to thank the Fredericks and Tim and Katy Jo for all their cooperation in helping us bring everything together. Obviously, in a negotiation like this, it needs to be a win/win for all of the parties and I feel like this is.”
The Fredericks said they are thrilled for Pippa to go to such a great program as Gil Galyean’s and such an amazing home as with the Carrs.
“Dan and I have been truly blessed to have owned an individual like Knockin It Out,” said Kathryn Frederick. “Pippa’s talent and beauty have been acknowledged and rewarded in arenas throughout the country, including at the most prestigious events of our industry. For this we sincerely thank all the judges that recognized her ability. That she was bred by us, the last mare out of Zippin The Breeze, has made our journey with Pippa even more memorable.”
The Fredericks are also quick to credit Katy Jo with helping Knockin It Out reach her full potential.
“She agreed with us that Pippa was special and took her time with her,” Kathryn said. “She believed in her and respected our goals and brought out the best in Pippa. Thanks to the talent, guidance and efforts of Katy Jo, Tim and all of the Zuidema team, 2019 was a dream year, like none other for Dan and I.”
Katy Jo also expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to train and show a horse like Knockin It Out.
“Pippa is probably the best horse I’ve ever had,” Katy Jo said. “It (the sale) is bittersweet for me because I think she’s just going to keep getting better and I hate to lose her. But I truly think she got the best home she possibly could have. The Carrs are awesome people who have been a part of my life for a lot of years and whom I adore and respect.”
Katy Jo added that of the five best horses she’s ever had, Galyean has ended up with three of them.
“Gil (for his clients) bought Sure Am Hot, Onlygoodtilmidnight and now Knockin It Out, she explained. “I know it will work great and she will go on and be successful just like the others. It’s a great story from start to finish… Dan sent his last filly out of his great mare to us as a 2-year-old and he and Kathryn were willing to wait on her. We had a great year last year, my best year start to finish on any western horse. And she’s going to a wonderful home.”
The Fredericks agree.
“Looking now to 2020, we want to thank Gil and Becky Galyean and Richard and Betty Carr for believing in Pippa as we have,” Kathryn said. “Pippa will always be special to us yet we know she will have a phenomenal home at Gil Galyean Quarter Horses and with the Carrs. Dan and I wish them nothing but the best and we look forward to cheering these new teams on wholeheartedly.”
