Competition heats up at NSBA World Show; Never Have I Ever claims 3 new titles

Jay Starnes and Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever added three more prestigious titles to her already impressive dossier this week at the National Snaffle Bit Association’s World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity.

This morning, Jay Starnes piloted the 2017 sorrel mare by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of A Certain Illusion, to a World Championship title in a very tough 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure class. The win comes just one day after Starnes and Never Have I Ever won the Junior Western Pleasure with 23 entries, earning $947.70. Reserve Champion in the Junior Western Pleasure was Moonrageous, owned by Starland Ranch and shown by Aaron Moses.

Later in the day on Monday, Never Have I Ever’s owner, Dakota Andrie, of Franklinville, New Jersey, fresh off winning the Level 2 and Level 1 13 & Under Western Pleasure classes at the American Quarter Horse Association’s Youth World Show last week, rode “Madonna” to a win in the Intermediate Division of the Breeders Championship Futurity 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

“She is special in the show ring because she is consistent, super soft and natural,” Andrie said.

There is a big support system behind the scenes that Andrie is grateful to have in her corner.

“My parents support me and make this all possible,” she explained. “My trainer, Jay Starnes, does an amazing job training Madonna, always having her ready and helping me. The entire team Starnes helps and my friends, family and everyone in the horse industry have helped me along the way.”

Showmanship

There have been some new faces and some familiar faces in the Showmanship winner’s circle this week.

Tony Anderman, of St Cloud, Minnesota, teamed with Solo Invested once again to capture an NSBA World Championship title in Amateur Showmanship by outscoring 73 other amateur teams. Good N Plenty Gold, owned and shown by Griffin Wade Holliday, Centralia, Missouri, were Reserve Champions and the bronze went to Son Of A Sudden, owned and shown by Jamie Radebaugh Devoe, Rowlett, Texas.

Anderman and Solo Invested (Mac), a 2004 bay gelding sired by A Good Machine, have been a team for four seasons now. On Sunday, following his win, Anderman said Mac performed exceptionally well this year.

“Mac” has so much try in the show pen, more than any other horse I have shown.” Anderman said. “Today we led very light and followed me around the corners well. And as always he was great at the extended trot!”

Anderman is coached by Clint Ainsworth and Blake Weis.

“I’m so thankful for them and their coaching and support,” he said.

Anderman and Mac now have two NSBA World Championship titles; three AQHA World Championship titles two Congress Championships titles. They will also compete in Horsemanship at the NSBA World Show on Friday.

Kip Riley and Sit Stil Look Pretty

In the 50 & Over Amateur Showmanship competition, Patrick “Kip” Riley and Sit Stil Look Pretty, a 2016 buckskin mare sire by Hot Sleek N Savvy, bested six other competitors to take a World Championship trophy back home to Seville, Ohio.

“We have had Lexi for about a year,” Riley explained, “and when we purchased her she did not have any all-around training.”

Riley, who has trained under the guidance of Chris Gray Performance Horses for the past 10 years said the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown made it even more difficult to prepare.

“Chris completely shut down his barn to clients from March through June, Riley said. “But Lexi is such a sweet, in your pocket mare. She is as sweet as could be and obviously loves the camera!”
