Another year is in the books for A Little Futurity in Raleigh, North Carolina and before all the hard-working staff could pack up their gear, Larry Little was talking feverishly about the changes he already has in mind for next year.
“There will be more money in both of our slot classes and bonuses for Limited Riders,” he said tonight. “I’m so proud of this show. It’s far exceeded my goal 10 years ago of just having a nice futurity on the East Coast, where there really wasn’t anything like it. People here have been telling me it’s growing into the premier futurity in the country.”
Tuesday’s competition started this morning with the 3-Year-Old Novice Horse Open Hunter Under Saddle. Shot Of Potential recorded the win among six entries with Tami Thurston in the irons for her husband, Paul Thurston, of Tarboro, North Carolina. They took home a check for $252 for the victory.
The 3-Year-Old Limited Open Western Pleasure was the biggest class of the day with 25 entries. Blake Britton, of Delta, Ohio, rode The Only Leading Lady to a win in the class for owner, Beckey Schooler, earning a paycheck of $725.20. The Only Leading Lady is sired by Only In The Moonlite out of Leaguers Leadin Lady.
“She showed great, exactly the way I wanted her to. It’s a talented mare and a fun horse to show,” Britton said after the class was over.
Britton rode The Only Leading Lady to a 9th place victory in the Hylton Maiden Classic held earlier this year and Ty Paris piloted her to a Reserve Championship tonight in the Non-Pro 3-Year-Old & Over $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class here at A Little Futurity, earning $7,440.
One of the largest Hunter Under saddle classes today was the Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle Maturity with a total of 10 entries. Born Hot Feelin Good, owned by Deanna Bailey and shown by Amber Hanson Pickard collected a check for $294 for the win.
The Winehurst $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Class, with a total purse of $5,000, was the featured event of the afternoon. Hez Plum Poison, owned by Olivia Hoecker, of Tipp City, Ohio, and ridden by Josh Robertson tied Hot Lopin Godbar, owned by Alexandra Chavez, of Paradise Valley, Arizona, and shown by Katie Green to win the class of seven entries with Hez Plum Poison winning the tie-breaker. Each took home checks for $2,272.
The grand finale of the futurity was the presentation of the Non-Pro 3 & Over $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class tonight. Sharnai Thompson rode Rock County Kid to a victory in the class of 10 to collect $9,920.
“I just love him,” Sharnai said after the class.
