Spectacular weather, convenient schedules, continuous entertainment and top-notch facilities at WestWorld are just some of the reasons the Arizona Sun Circuit continues to
remain one of the Top 5 American Quarter Horse Association ranked shows in the United States each year.

Doug Huls, show manager for the Arizona Sun Circuit reports that when the books were closed on the 2014 event total entries were 15,288 and total stall rentals were 1,333.

“The show went incredibly well this year,” Huls says. “Not only did the weather cooperate but timeliness and efficiency were at an all-time high. Our cow horse classes doubled in size. I was most pleased with how well the staff worked together to enhance the exhibitor’s experience.”

After having 18 months off to recover from ligament surgery, multiple Congress and AQHA World Champion mare Cool Krymsun Lady made an astonishing return to the show arena at the Sun Circuit by winning the Open Senior Horse High-Point Championship.

Purcell, Oklahoma trainer Gil Galyean showed the 2005 bay mare by One Hot Krymsun out of Cool Lookin Lady to a Circuit Championship in Performance Halter Mares and a Reserve Circuit Championship in Senior Western Pleasure.

Owner Susan Knapp of Van Meter, Iowa, could not have been more pleased since just over a year ago she was convinced the mare would never show again and would live out her life in family’s broodmare band.

“We pulled her out one day and it was obvious something was wrong,” Knapp says. “It turned out she needed ligament surgery and was confined to three months of stall rest, then hand walking and eventually light riding.”

Galyean, who rode Cool Krymsun Lady to her World Championship titles in 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure and Junior Western Pleasure, says she has made a full recovery.

“We started her back at the first of the year and she was back to moving the way she had when she won the World Show in 2009,” says Galyean. “She’s truly a great horse, not just in her movement, but in her structure and elegance as well.”

Other High-Point winners included: Open Junior Horse, Cee Money, owned by Dan Yeager; Amateur, The Heat Seeker, owned by Angela Fox; Novice Amateur, Zip Past The Jag, owned by Bonnie E. Elber; Select Amateur, Visible Investment, owned by Anne Wilson; Youth 11 & Under, Hotroddin Renegade, owned by Jaleesa Caroccio; Youth 13 & Under, Lets Talk About AOK, owned by Shea Graham; Youth 14-18, Cool Assets Kaylee Mellott; Novice Youth, Huntin A Hot Babe, owned by Jordan Davis; Green Horse, I Got A Hot Secret, owned by Mary Lynn Leedy Trust.

The Arizona Quarter Horse Association and show manager Doug Huls have worked hard over the years to provide not only a high caliber show where lots of points can be earned but also a diverse setting.

So what’s in store for next year’s Arizona Sun Circuit?

“More of the same! We had only one arena which we split during the show because it was going to have a 2 a.m. completion,” says Huls. “By utilizing another arena we finished by 9 p.m. We have already figured a schedule correction out for next year. It’s great to have the biggest circuit in the country and still allow exhibitors early enough finish times to eat dinner at the many fine restaurants in Scottsdale.”
