Ely Joe Taylor and his show partner, Shez Sleepy Too, added four more World Championship titles to their already impressive dossier on Friday in day two of competition at the Palomino Youth World Show, being held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Taylor and the 2016 mare by Too Sleepy To Zip and out of Zippo Mito Doll captured the top spots in Hunter In Hand All Age, Hunter Under Saddle 14-18, Hunt Seat Equitation 14-18 and Road Hack 14-18.
On Thursday the team of just three years won their first World Championship title at the show in Showmanship 14-18. They also claimed Reserves in Ranch Rail and Ranch.
Taylor said winning all four English classes on Thursday felt “surreal” and admitted his success in the Ranch events took him by surprise, since it was a last-minute decision to even enter.
“The hardest classes or me so far had to be the Ranch competition,” he admitted. “I decided to add them the night before and had never practiced them.”
Taylor credits his parents; his trainer, Justin Brown; and Lauren Williams with helping him achieve such success.
“So many others have also helped me become successful in the Palomino industry,” Taylor said. “My horse is a great all-around contender. While western classes are her stronger ones, she has excelled at every class we have thrown at her.
Taylor and Shez Sleepy Too still have many classes on the schedule. They will compete in Color, Performance Halter Mares, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship and Trail.
