A total of 14 horses are slated to compete for a total purse of $36,300 in the $30,000 added 3-Year-Old Maiden Open Hunter Under Saddle slot class, being presented this afternoon as part of the Virginia Maiden at the March To Virginia AQHA Show March 27-30, in Lexington, Virginia. Action is expected to start at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) and will be broadcast live on the InStride Edition Facebook Page.
Today’s winner will receive $9,075. The highest placing Limited Rider in the class will receive a $1,500 bonus and $1,000 will go to the second highest placing Limited Rider.
Last year Kaitlin Hutchinson won the 3-Year-Old & Over Maiden Hunter Under Saddle slot class riding Southernaire, owned by Looney Quarter Horses and collecting a check for $10,016.
Georgia trainer Jamie English will compete today aboard Gone Buh Bye, a 2022 bay gelding, sired by Gone Viral out of A Great Ride, bred by Greg Holstege. She said she just wants him to show like a broke show horse and make it look as easy as possible.
English has had Gone Buh Bye in training since last August and he has been great to train.
“I think his biggest strengths are his ability to trot and lope equally well,” she said. “He has a lot of self-carriage and it’s easy for him.”
This is English’s third time competing in the Virginia Maiden Hunter Under Saddle slot class and she’s been coming to Virginia to show since she was a kid. She and her husband, Jason, brought 13 horses to this year’s show. Ironically, Jason showed Gone Buh Bye’s sire, Gone Viral to a Congress Championship and numerous futurity wins.
Jamie said she is especially excited to be showing Gone Buh Bye for owners Dan & Allison Rock, Hoschton, Georgia, since they have not shown horses for 25 years.
“It’s pretty exciting to have a cool maiden horse to show for them,” she explained. “They are as excited as I am.”
To be eligible for the class, horses must be at least 3 years old and not have shown under saddle. Entry fee is $750.
