Gearing Up To Go “Back To Berrien”

In just a few weeks exhibitors will be headed to Michigan for the industry’s only standalone futurity of the year. Back to Berrien, held June 18-21 at the Berrien County Fairgrounds, boasts a full slate of National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) classes plus many featured spotlight classes including The DAC 3-Year-Old & Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure and The Challenge, a dual event featuring a bridleless pleasure class and barrel race.

This year organizers are adding yet another special event to entice exhibitors to make their way Back To Berrien. A $10,000 added 3-D Western Pleasure open to horses of all ages. Riders will be split based on their career earnings and equal payouts will be given to each division. The class is sponsored by by Noltrex Joint Lubricant/Mid-South Equine.

“At Back To Barrien, we are always looking to try new and innovative ideas to make our show more appealing,” said show manager Gil Galyean. “We thought we would give this 3-D format a try and see how exhibitors liked it.”

This year for The Challenge exhibitors will again compete in a bridleless pleasure class followed by a barrel race. The top three finishers in the combined classes will get to pick from three briefcases filled with cash. One briefcase will have $2,500 up for grabs.

“We believe this is the funniest part of the horse show,” Galyean said. “Both exhibitors and spectators had a great time last year and we hope this year is no different.”

The signature event, The DAC Western Pleasure, will return again this year. It is offered for 3 & Over horses who have not won over $2,500 as of June 1, 2025. Sponsored by DAC Vitamins and Minerals The DAC has an additional purse of $10,000 with added money for the Limited Rider division.

“We are really looking forward to seeing everyone in Berrien this year,” Galyean said. “It’s a great show and our new event will be a lot of fun.”
