Sixteen horses will make their maiden voyage around a show arena in a judged event tonight when they compete for a total purse of $80,800 (including bonuses) in the Hylton Maiden 3-Year Old and Over Western Pleasure at the Virginia Classic Quarter Horse Show in Lexington.

When the judges’ selections are tallied the winner will walk away with a check for $30,200. The highest placing Intermediate Rider will take home a bonus of $6,000 and the highest placing Limited Rider will pocket an additional $4,000.

The Hyton Maiden 3-Year-Old & Over Western Pleasure event, now in its sixth year, is made possible by the generous financial support of Cecilia Hylton, of Hylton Quarter Horses in Gainesville, Virginia.

“We at Hylton Quarter Horses are pleased to continue to be one of the highest paying futurity events in the country,” says Lucas Cash, head trainer at Hylton Quarter Horses. “Cecilia keeps the Hylton Maiden going to give 3-year-old and over maiden horses a premier class to show in for a lot of money, at a premier event like the Virginia Classic. It was the highest paying futurity class in 2015 and should be in 2016.”

Taft Dickerson won last year’s class aboard Made By J (Machine Made x Dark Jasmine) and he returns this year to compete, this year on a 2013 bay mare by Extremely Hot Chips out of Good Southern Belle, owned by Stephanie Redus.

0315-5259 Hylton Champion WEBSteve Heckaman traveled from Texas to compete aboard Money Making Machine, a 2010 bay stallion by A Good Machine out of Potential Elegance. He last competed in the Hylton Maiden in 2011.

“It’s the largest added money event in our industry with a payout that is one of the best, if not the best of all year,” he said. “It offers real incentive to hold a nice horse back, train him properly at his own rate then come and compete against other nice horses that have followed the same timeline.”

The class is scheduled to get under way at 6 p.m. and InStride Edition will bring you results live from the arena.
