After years of writing number one country songs for others, it was Jaida Dreyer shining in the spotlight last night as it was announced that she is the season one winner of Real Country, USA Network’s new country-themed reality singing competition.
In each of seven hour-long episodes, Shania Twain, Jake Owen and Travis Tritt hand-selected emerging solo artists, duos and groups to perform in showcases that spotlight the rich traditions, songs and themes of specific country genres.
Dreyer, an AQHA and NSBA competitor, won episode three of the contest, advancing her to last night’s finale, where she performed her original song, “Jack It to Jesus (Spray It to Hell).
Dreyer explained how the song came about:
“My friend, Melissa White Schleicher owns a beauty salon just outside of Nashville in Brentwood, Tennessee and has had the pleasure of doing Loretta Lynn’s hair and makeup over the years. She told me many moons ago, when I first moved to town, that every time she sits down with Miss Loretta, she looks at her in the mirror and says, “Jack it to Jesus and spray it to hell!” Talking about her hair. I told her over and over again that someday I was going to write her that song until the day I finally sat down and wrote it with Jesse Frasure. I love country music. I love and respect the history of country music. This is my ode to all the big haired women that came before me and it’s available everywhere NOW!
For winning the first season of Real Country, Dreyer gets $100,000 and the opportunity to perform at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
“Jack It to Jesus (Spray It to Hell) is now available to download in the iTunes store.
