Katlin Schultz and Jackets Required

Katlin Schultz and Jackets Required

Native of: Ludington, Michigan.

 Age: 28

Family: Parents, Brian and Gerri Schultz; sister, Bre Schultz; brother, Brian Schultz.

Education: Attended Ludington High School but was home schooled most of high school, living with my horse trainers at the time and hauling for national titles; 2006 graduate of American Schools.

Occupation: National Director of Donor Relations for Be Someone’s Hero, a charity for PediatricCancer based out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Introduction to Horses: At age 9, I was horse crazy. I took lessons once a week and begged my parents for a horse until they finally gave in. One turned into two. Two turned into four and now almost 20 years later I have a small harem of 14 broodmares and show horses.

Current Show Partner: This year I am showing Jacket Required, a 2013 gray stallion by Coats N Tails and out of Certified To Hunt in 3-year-old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle classes. We’ve called him Gumby since the day he was born. His legs were a mile long. He stuck his head straight up in the air as proud as could be and had no idea in which direction his legs were going. To this day I don’t think he can walk a straight line.

Trainers: Kim and Curtis Reynolds, Final Four Performance Horses, Fairfield, Florida.

Biggest Prize: I’ve won the Tom Powers Futurity, Reichert Celebration, Double Your Pleasure Futurity and have been Reserve at the National Snaffle Bit Association World Show. I’ve also been top five at the Quarter Horse Congress and have had many regional wins. I’ve had national year-end top 10 standings in the Hunter Under Saddle. It always feels good. I’ve been fortunate to have nice horses and talented trainers along the way.

My Motivation: I’ve been in the industry for so long it’s in my blood . Every time I think of the future , there’s always a horse in it. I look forward to seeing my horse show friends and it’s become different now to ride ones you have bred and raised and see them succeed.

Favorite Class: I’ve always been a Hunter Under Saddle gal. I love big moving, strong, arrogant horses. I’ve never had an easy one. That would be nice but it’s never been in the cards for me. All of mine have known their potential and want to make me work for it . It makes winning even more rewarding.

Finish this sentence…Most people would be surprised to learn I … have shown Saddlebreds and Morgan horses since I was 10 and I have had many regional wins and Top 10 World Show awards.

Who has had the most impact on your show career? My father. Without his encouragement to travel, take in the life lessons and finances I would have never accomplish what I have. Another huge influence is Robin Baker. She is such a blessing for me to have in my life. She is beyond talented, has been in the industry since she was a young girl and has a resume to boot. I am honored to call her my best friend.
