AQHA World Champion and leading Hunter Under Saddle sire, Last Detail, has passed, according to Ron Horn, El Reno, Oklahoma.
“This morning we laid to rest an icon in the equine world. Last Detail helped pave the way for the AQHA hunt seat horses,” he said. “He is still the All-Time Leading Hunter Under Saddle sire of all divisions. Thank you to the Whitaker family for allowing me to be a small part of his legacy. Larry and Linda Whitaker, June Warren, and Nancy Sue Ryan all took part in making Last Detail a legend. His accomplishments as a sire may never be matched.”
Last Detail, a 1991 bay stallion by Jetaway Easy and out of Lilly La Belle, was an AQHA World Champion and Quarter Horse Congress Champion in Junior Hunter Under Saddle. Bred by Clifton Thronberry, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Last Detail was purchased by Horn in 1992. He and partner (the late) June Warren sold Last Detail to their clients, Larry and Linda Whitaker, as a 3-year-old and managed his show and breeding career. The Whitaker family owned Last Detail all the rest of his life.
In 1995 Last Detail won a Congress Championship in Junior Hunter Under Saddle and an AQHA World Championship title in Junior Hunter Under Saddle, with Nancy Sue Ryan in the irons.
But his real accomplishments came as a sire. Last Detail offspring have earned four Open, 17 Amateur and eight AQHA World Championship titles and six open, 15 Amateur and six AQHA Youth Reserve World Championships. He is also the sire of numerous Congress Champions.
The Last Captive, was a World and Congress Champion in Hunter Under Saddle and himself a decorated sire.
Must Be A Detail was also both a multiple World and Congress Champion and Ask Me For Detail was a six-time AQHA Champion and two-time winner of the AQHA World Show Amateur All-Around title.
In all, Last Detail’s foals have earned over 31,000 AQHA points and recorded over $481,000 in National Snaffle Bit Association earnings; $173,104 AQHA World Show earnings; and $479,576 in total SAQHA earnings.
Last Detail was an AQHA All Time Leading Sire of Hunter Under Saddle Sire in Open, Amateur and Youth divisions and in 2009 he was inducted into the NSBA Hall Of Fame.
