Rusty Green and Made N The Shade

The National Snaffle Bit Association made competition at its 2017 World Championship Show in Tulsa an early day on Wednesday as it prepared for its annual Awards Banquet held at the Doubletree Hotel.

But there was still plenty of action in all three arenas as new World Champions were crowned and Breeders Championship Futurity winners decided. Competition continues through Sunday.

The spotlight again was on Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle in the Ford Truck Arena.

Haley Purkapile, Pilot Point, Texas, teamed with Ready Set Lope, a 2012 bay mare by Certain Potential and out of Lopins Dream, to win the 18-entry $10,000 Limited Horse Non-Pro Western Pleasure Maturity and a check for $1,255.15.

“I got her at the end of June for my birthday, from Debby Brehm,” Purpapile said. “She is really a fun horse to show. She is so expressive in the show pen.”

Purkapile, who shows under the direction of Rusty Green Show Horses, in Pilot Point, said she was extremely pleased with how the 2012 bay mare performed today.

“She was so good for me,” she said.

Rusty Green piloted Made In the Shade to a win in the 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure with 11 entries, collecting a check for $1,139.

“That’s probably the best trip I’ve had on him,” Green said. “He likes to do his job.”

Made N The Shade is sired by Machine Made and out of Mistys Version and is owned by Natasha Blanchard, Lumberton, Texas. Green said Natasha set the stage, earlier in the day, by winning the NSBA BCF 3-Year Old Limited No-Pro Western Pleasure. Natasha and Made N The Shade bested 22 other entries to capture the win and a check for $1,894.13.

Jason English aboard Gone Viral.

In the Intermediate 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure, Jason English rode the stallion Gone Viral to capture his fourth World Championship title here at the show. Sired by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of Suddenly Style N, Gone Viral is also affectionately known as “Monkey” and can often be seen posing with his trophies while sticking out his tongue.

Adam Mathis won the BCF Color 3-6-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure aboard Sleep Machine, sired by Machine Made and out of Too Sleepy To Speed, for owner by Bill Cox, Paris, Ontario, Canada. A total of 12 horses competed for the top prize of $905.14.

“I was confident really,” Mathis said. “I didn’t know what the judges were going to do with her but I was happy with her.

Mathis, who is an assistant trainer at Gil Galyean Quarter Horses in Purcell, Oklahoma, said Sleep Machine is especially strong at the jog.

“That’s her strongest point in my opinion,” he said.

He also thinks she is relatively easy to show.

“You can put her anywhere in the pen and she’ll show,” he explained. “On the rail, off the rail, it doesn’t matter. She knows when she’s in the show pen. She likes for everyone to look at her.”

Kenny Lakins won the BCF 2-Year-Old Open Color Western Pleasure aboard Born Sophisticated, a 2015 sorrel mare by Sophistication Only and out of Coal Minrs Daughter, owned by Jerry & Dr. Laura Bracken, Trafalgar, Indiana. A total of 11 competed for the top prize of $731.08.

Bradley Pitts piloted Cool Lookin Moonie to a win in the Maturity Limited Open Western Pleasure, earning $1,622.81 for owner Bussing Performance Horses, Evansville, Indiana.

Meghan Tierney and Pretty Assets

In Hunter Under Saddle competition Meghan Tierney added another title to the resume of her already highly decorated show mare Pretty Assets by winning the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle.

“I felt very solid going into the pen. This was the one class I wanted to win more than anything coming here,” Tierney said. “We were Reserve here last year, so I wanted to top that.”

A total of 12 competed in the class and Tierney took home a check for 532.70 for the win aboard the bay mare, sired by Allocate Your Assets and out of Art I Pretty.

“She felt awesome. She was right in my hands and I was able to put her where I wanted,” she explained. “She’s a great trotter, with an A-plus canter, but when we canter to the right she gives so much feel and natural lift. It’s quite impressive to watch and even better to ride to.”

Tierney who braids and bands horses at show professionally had to squeeze showing into her schedule.

“I’ve been braiding and riding a lot at this show and getting little to no sleep, and it is so special when all that hard work pays off.”

Rebekah L. Kazakevicius, Ocala, Florida, added another win on Wednesday when she captured the top prize in the Maturity Non-Pro Hunter Under saddle aboard Not Just Anyhoo, sired by Hot Ones Only and out of Skys Strawberry. On Tuesday, they won the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle

“I felt like I had a lot of momentum going into today.” Kazakevicius said. “Waiting in the line-up I thought I made a really good first impression. I trotted in first, so it’s nice to get ahead of the pack and get your spots. I definitely think one of his strong points is his trot.”

Katy Jo Zuidema added to the show record of Al Wayz On Your Mind by winning the Open 3-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle for owner Sarah Nimigan, Paris, Ontario, Canada. The win in the 12-entry class paid $1,139.95.

Beth Case rode Miss Goody Hoo Shoes, sired by Hot Ones Only
and out of Goodygoody Gumdrops, to a win in the seven-entry Open 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle for owner Tammy Thompson, collecting a check for $1,206.

Red Solo Cup won the Open Color Maturity with Brian Isbell in the irons. Sired by Zippos Sensation and out of Shesa Real Pleasure, Red Solo Cup is owned by Madison Ketchum, Grand Junction, Colorado and earned $949.20 for the win in the 12-entry class.

Competition was just as strong over in the Super Duty Arena where Trail dominated the day’s schedule. A total of 21 competed in Color Non-Pro Trail and when judging was complete Touched N Moonlite was declared the winner. Sired by On In The Moonlite and out of One Tuff Touch, Touched N Moonlite is owned and shown by Ashley Hadlock, Goodletsville, Tennessee.

Clint Ainsworth piloted Shes Willy Awesome to a win in the 4 and 5-Year-Old Open Trail, earning $2,675.76 for owner Janice Warford, Alpharetta, Georgia. A total of 59 competed in the class.

The 50 & Over Amateur Select Trail drew a total of 56 entries and Bonnie Sheren – Studio City, California emerged the winner with her show partner Heza Radical Zip, sird by Radical Rodder and out of Sonnys Last Zip. They collected $1,578.38 for their win.

Jennifer Paul guided Lazyboy, sired by Lazy Loper and out of Mckays Elegant Chip, to a win in the 25 entry 3-Year-Old Open Trail for owner Jolene M Mierzejewski, Mount Sterling, Ohio.

Killian Mullen and Zippinpistolgoodbar, a 2014 red roan gelding by It’s a Zippo Good Bar and out of In The Zippo League, won the BCF 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Trail and a check for $1,417.75.

Equitation competition closed out the day as Johnna Letchworth, Horace, North Dakota, bested 22 other entries to win the Amateur Equitation aboard Krymsun Kryptonite, sired by One Hot Krymsun and out of Sweet Talkin Jeannie.

Suni Duke won the Color Non-Pro Equitation Equitation aboard Shesa Hot Selection. The win in the 12-entry class was worth $529.60.

Action got under way in the Mustang Arena with Longe line competition. Tom Williams got things started by winning the 22-entry BCF Open Hunter Longe Line with All Good/Up All Night, sired by All Time Fancy and out of Sly Sister, collecting $1,765.65 for owner Allie Littlefield, Lone Jack, Missouri. In the Open Hunter Longe Line, Anthony Leier showed Thebestbetyet, sired by Too Sleepy To Zip and out of Impulsive Bet, to a win, collecting $1,182.30 for owner Kevin Griner, Metter, Georgia.

In the BCF Color Open Longe Line and Color Open Longe Line (which ran concurrently) Sleeping On The Job, sired by Too Sleepy To Zip and out of BP Miss Emma Dee, sailed to victory with Tim Gillespie on the line for owners Patty Busse/Shilo Eggers, Humboldt, Kansas. The win was worth $2,053.18.
