Martinganza Quarter Horse Show in full swing in North Carolina

Martinganza2016_02_011The 2016 Martinganza Quarter Horse Show/ Futurity is in full swing this weekend at the Senator Bob Martin Eastern Ag Center in Williamston, North Carolina.

 

“Classes have been big so far,” said Susan Daniels, show secretary.

 

Amateur Horsemanship drew 20 entries while 13 competed in Select Trail. Most Western Pleasure classes were two to three points while the largest Western Riding class was Level 1 with 14 entries.

 

The Martinganza is managed and run by the District IV North Carolina Quarter Horse Association and is affiliated with the American Quarter Horse Association, Virginia Quarter Horse Association the North Carolina Quarter Horse Association and the National Snaffle Bit Association. Proceeds provide partial funding for the Equine Technology Program at Martin Community College in Williamston, the only two-year equine studies program in North Carolina.

 

The show opened on Thursday with Western Riding, Western Pleasure, Reining, Ranch Riding, Horsemanship and Trail classes.

 

Maggie Grandquist traveled from Aubrey, Texas to attend the Martinganza for her first time. She is showing Zippin A Breeze, sired by Invitation Only and out of Zippin The Breeze, in Junior Western Pleasure while Alexandra Chavez, of Paradise Valley, Arizona, competes aboard the 2013 sorrel gelding in Amateur Western Pleasure.

“The show has been really low-key and the people are great,” she said. “The classes are good sized too. The facility is great with lots of places to ride.”

 

Today has been busy with over fences classes in the outside arena. Additional Western Riding, Western Pleasure and Ranch Riding classes are being judged in the main indoor arena and Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation will follow later today. Futurity classes today include Green Hunter Under Saddle, Non-Pro Hunter Under saddle, Green Western Pleasure and Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

 

Judges for this year’s show are: Clint Fullerton, Chris Jeter, Tanya Green, Pam Scott and and Clay Macleod.
