Paints Allowed to Show Together in Select Events at World Show

Solid and Regular Registry Paints to show together in select events at 2018 APHA World Championship Shows

Paint World ShoqIn an effort to improve World Show opportunities, solid Paint-breds and Regular Registry Paints will show together in most non-world championship, non-pointed classes at the APHA World Championship Show and Youth World Championship Show.

This move was approved by the Executive Committee at their January 2018 meeting for select World Show events only; included are added-money Challenge and Sweepstakes classes (except those held concurrently with world championship classes), the Breeders’ Trust Pleasure Stakes classes with a combined $50,000 payout, and the Youth Team Tournament and Youth World Games events.

Last year, solids were allowed to show in these non-world championship, non-pointed events if they were DNA tested to carry a Paint pattern gene—that rule proved cumbersome to exhibitors. The Executive Committee voted in January to approve an easier-to-understand format that helps provide value-added showing options to solid Paint-breds on the World Show stage.

The Youth World Championship Show takes place June 25–July 8 in Fort Worth, Texas, and qualifying is not required. In order to compete for scholarship prizes—awarded in all world championship classes—horses must be owned/leased by the exhibitor or an eligible family member as recorded by APHA postmarked by the pre-entry deadline, May 15. Youth or eligible family members who own/lease their horses after the May 15 postmark deadline (as recorded by APHA) are eligible to compete for Youth World Show titles and awards upon payment of a $500 fee (applied to the APHF Youth World Show Scholarship Fund), but they will not be eligible to earn scholarship money. The schedule will be posted at apha.com/ywcs/schedule/ in March. More than $120,000 in Youth scholarships are available in 2018.

The Open/Amateur World Championship Show takes place September 17–30 in Fort Worth, Texas. Non-pointed, non-world championship classes do not require qualification (except the PBRIP Sweepstakes classes); for all world championship events, qualifying via participation at two APHA-approved events during the applicable period (June 1, 2017–June 4, 2018) or payment of a $1,000 per show fee is required. The schedule will be posted at apha.com/oawcs/show-schedule/ in April, and pre-entries are due August 1. More than $800,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs at the 2018 APHA World Championship Show.
