Celebrities, athletes, horse industry professionals and countless individuals working behind the scenes, have joined together to present a 24-hour Live-Stream Facebook Telethon to raise funds to assist those in the horse and livestock industry directly impacted by unforeseen emergencies, such as the current Coronavirus pandemic.
Dubbed the “Rona Rodeo” the telethon, will kick off at noon (Central Time) on Friday, April 10 and continue through noon on Saturday, April 11. All money raised will go directly to the Ranch and Rider Recovery Fund, being formed as a 501c# nonprofit organization to provide financial assistance to those facing unforeseen emergency expenses, according to Jeff Sims, the founder of the project.
“A person can apply for the assistance,” Sims explained, “and once the governing committee approves the request, a direct payment will be made to the business supplying the product or products needed, rather than directly to the applicant.”
The event will be hosted by actress Dru Mouser, radio DJ Ricki Ramirez and AQHA and NSBA trainer Cleve Wells, of Joshua, Texas, with special guest appearances by NFR World Champions Cody Ohl and Caleb Smitd; singers Rich O’Toole and Carson Jeffrey; and many more.
Throughout the 24-hour telethon, music, business highlights and interviews with industry professionals, will be created by cowboys for cowboys using iPads and cell phones, and broadcast live on the Rona Rodeo Facebook page from the Sommervell County Expo Center, for viewers to access from the comfort of their own home while under quarantine.
In addition, a “virtual trade show is being created where (upon approval) vendors can display products and services free of charge.
The idea for the Rona Rodeo originated with Sims, who said he felt a call to help his community after learning how much of an impact the crisis is having on fellow horsemen.
Donations to the Ranch and Rider Recovery Fund will be accepted via the Rona Rodeo Facebook Fundraiser and beyond as organizers reach out to their communities to support those in greatest need.
