Waco, Texas was definitely the place to be April, 23-26 for the 30th annual Texas Amateur State Championship Show held at the Extraco Event Center.
“Over 500 stalls were rented and entries were definitely up from last year,”stall manager Donna Arnett said. “We had trainers and exhibitors from all over the United States come to show this weekend.”
Judges for the weekend included Steve Meadows, Pierre Briere, Doug Huls, Clint Fullerton, Scott Newuman and Kelly Boles Chapman.
Big Country Quarter Horse Association goes above and beyond making sure the show is very exhibitor friendly. From the second you step foot on the show grounds the show staff is there greeting you with a smile and helping you in any way they can. Friday night a fajita dinner was sponsored by Tate and Jamie Oakley and on Saturday night an Italian dinner was sponsored by Big Country Quarter Horse Association for all exhibitors and spectators to enjoy. It was great way for everyone to sit down and relax after a long day of showing and a chance to visit with friends.
“I’ve been coming and showing at the the Texas Amateur State Championship Show for the past five years and the show staff always makes everyone feel welcomed,”select amateur exhibitor Ernie Branson said .
The classes were big and the competition was fierce. The Senior Trail was the largest class with 62 entries. Starting off first thing Friday morning was the 3-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure Futurity with nine entries. The big winner unanimously walking away with the champion title and a brand new Lori Heckaman Show Pad was Rusty Green riding For One Night Only owned by Capital Quarter Horses. Sunday morning the futurities continued with the3-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure Futurity and with two first and a second walking away the champion with a beautiful Lori Heckaman Show Pad was Hillary Roberts riding For One Night Only owned by Capital Quarter Horses. Next up was the Non-Pro Maturity $10,000.00 Limited Horse and the unanimous winner was Becky Galyean riding Lookin Pretty Hot bringing home a paycheck of $600.00.
