Rusty Green, Momma Knows Best win Slot Class at A Little Futurity

DSC_7727Rusty Green rode Momma Knows Best, a 2012 bay mare by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Hot Little Mama, owned by Capital Quarter Horses, to a victory tonight in the 3 & 4-Year-Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure at A Little Futurity in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The win marked the second straight year Green won the class, sponsored by Southern Oaks Farms/Peek and Virginia Owen. This year 14 horses competed for a total purse of $37,000.

“It was an awesome ride, Green said following the presentation of the $9,028 check. “I’d like to thank Katie (Green) for getting her ready. The class was really good and had some of the best horses in the country.”

DSC_7725The class actually ended in a tie between Green aboard Momma Knows Best and Steve Reams riding SouthernComfortZone, with Green winning the tie-breaker. SouthernComfortZone is owned by Wesley Smith and also earned a $9,028 paycheck.

This marks the fifth year the class has been featured at A Little Futurity but this year founder Larry Little added a whole additional purse for (Limited) horses that had not won $1,000 by the start of this year’s futurity.

Aaron Moses collected $5,920 for placing third in the class aboard Sleep Machine, owned by William Cox, and another $4,860 for being the highest placing Limited entry.

Other class placings include:

4th/5th tie ($2,812 each): Made By J, owned by Cory Seebach and Candice Hall, shown by Gil Galyean; Shes A Lopin Machine, owned by Cathy Starnes, shown by Kristy Starnes.

DSC_7709Also featured tonight was the Capall Creek Farm 3 & Over Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle. First place honors went to Raise Ur Bid with Katy Jo Jones in the irons. Reserve Champion was Woody BeA Detail owned and shown by Sarah Nimigan.

Judges for this year’s event were Karen Waters, Bruce Walquist, Scott Neuman and Buddy Fisher
