We’ve all heard that “What Happens In Vegas, Stays in Vegas” but thanks to a personal report from our newest correspondent, Courtney Archer, InStride Edition is reporting on all the happenings at the 2014 Silver Dollar Circuit. We here at InStride Edition are thrilled to have Courtney on our team and invite you to stop her to say hi or share your own news with her when you see her at a show.
The South Point Hotel and Equestrian Center is the host hotel and the staff there is very accommodating to all AQHA members and their horses.
Jan Bruner and her office staff run a great show. With 8,028 entries and 433 stalls filled with horses, their days are busy and long. When I stopped by to say hello the office staff was all smiles handling every question with answers and every change with a “yes we can” attitude.
The first class each day starts at 8 a.m. and the last class is over by 7 p.m. This is a great schedule as it gives everyone time to eat dinner with friends, see a Vegas show or try their luck at a little gambling.
The classes have been very big with Senior Trail bringing in 83 entries and the Senior Western Riding coming in second with 42 entries.
The futurity classes were amazing. The riders and their horses were all top performers who made each class tough to judge. Winners included:
• 4 & Over Open Maturity Western Pleasure: Champion Charlie Cole and Sudden Persuasion, owned by Bonnie Sheren (unanimous winners); Reserve Champion Chad Evans and Blazing Hot Sally, owned by Donna Biddulph.
• 4 & Over Limited Maturity Western Pleasure: Champion Chad Evans and Blazing Hot Sally, owned by Donna Biddulph (unanimous winner); Reserve Champion Nancy Renfro and Nothin Compares, owned by Carol Thomsen.
• 3-Year-Old Limited and Open Western Pleasure: Champion Brad Ost and No Doubt Im Huntin, owned by Rebekah Kazakevicius (unanimous winner); Reserve Champion Duke Williams and Slow Southern Motion, owned by Diane or Terry Tuytens.
• 4 & Over Open Maturity Hunter Under Saddle: Champion Deanna Searles and See Says Aloha, owned by Jim Searles (unanimous winner); Reserve Champion Nancy Renfro and The Fire Escape, owned by Lauren Rodberg.
I met up with Brad Ost after his big win in the 3-Year-Old Open and Limited Western Pleasure and he was proud of No Doubt Im Huntin (aka Peyton). “Peyton is so much fun to show and what you have in the warm pen is exactly what you have in the show pen,” he says. “He went into the show pen focused and retained that focus throughout the ride today.”
