Smith says sale may expand to include Non-Pro incentives

A Scenic LegacyAt the opening of the 2013 Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale on Nov. 10, APHA Executive Director Billy Smith announced that new incentive classes might be offered for eligible 3- and 4-year-olds that went through the sale as yearlings.

Currently, yearlings who are entered into the Breeders’ Trust Select Yearling Sales Stakes Session are eligible to return and compete in the Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes or the Farnam 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle Stakes classes at the follow year’s APHA World Show. In 2014, a combined $50,000 purse will be awarded with the allocation per class based on the number of entries in each class.

However, Billy told the auction crowd he hoped soon there would be an announcement that 3- and 4-year-old incentive classes for non-pros would be offered in addition to the $50,000 stakes events. He said these classes would be “equal in stature of the 2-year-old classes” and would be designed to sustain the value of horses going through the sale.

In this year’s sale, 10 horses went through the Regular Session and 40 in the Yearling Sale Stakes Session.

Two yearlings brought high bids of $20,000:

  • A Scenic Legacy, a 2012 sorrel overo gelding by A Scenic Impulse and out of M And M With Spots by MF Jigsaw, was consigned to the sale by Paul and Kimberly Garrett.
  • Good Machinery, a 2012 bay tobiano colt by the Quarter Horse A Good Machine and out of She Can Cadillac by Reds Black Max, was consigned by Mike and Sandy Dubose.

Good Machinery (Lot49)Also during the sale, a 5-year-old tobiano miniature gelding was auctioned for $2,600 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. A “hat” was also passed around for cash donations from the auction crowd, raising another $1,351 for the program.
