The 2020 Dixie National Quarter Horse Show, held Feb. 12-17, at the State Fairgrounds in Jackson, Mississippi, was the largest to date, according to show officials, with 142 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) entries and 116 National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) entries.
The Southern Classic is the premier event of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association and the largest quarter horse show held during a stock show in the nation. The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show is the largest in the South and the third largest Quarter Horse show in the United States.
This year’s event show got under way Feb. 4 with Equestrian With Disabilities classes. Judging for AQHA classes started on Feb. 12.
Jessica Keller won the Non-Pro division, and Sara Lynn Goetz won the open division of Wendy’s Freestyle Reining. A Frosty eating contest helped to raise money for the two Region 9 Scholarships, the Andrew McBeath Leadership Scholarship, and the Swayze Woodruff Memorial Mid South Scholarship.
Trail, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Halter and Western Riding classes were featured on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16. This year, the Saturday schedule included the event’s Inaugural Versatility Ranch Horse Event as well as the Leadline and Stick Horse Race were also held on Saturday.
This year’s show wrapped up on Sunday, Feb. 17 with speed events and hunt seat classes.
