It was a busy day Tuesday in the Super Duty Arena as Trail dominated the morning’s competition at the National Snaffle Bit Association’s World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Angela Wade ruled the Amateur Trail, with a total of 42 entries, by collecting both a Championship and Reserve Championship trophy. Wade rode A Soxy Dream, sired by A Dream Remembered and out of Roxie Soxy, to a win in the class, earning $1,274.78.
“There wasn’t anything in the pattern that was specifically difficult, but keeping the pattern consistent throughout the entire run was probably the biggest challenge since we had to start with a slow obstacle and end with a slow obstacle,” Wade said.
The Wellington, Florida competitor thought her horse performed well.
“With Sister (A Soxy Dream), everything was just so soft and so correct and I felt like she was really standing up and loping today,” Wade said.
Wade also captured the Reserve Championship and $831.38 with her other show partner, The Perfect Kryme, sired by One Hot Krymsun and out of Good Bar Ms.
Blake Weis showed The Extreme Machine (Machine Made x Miss Trophy Chip) to a win in Junior Trail for owner Rhonda Wade, Savannah, Missouri, collecting $1,749.15. A total of 69 competed for a total purse of $5,893.88.
Jason Gilliam took top prize in the Breeders Championship Futurity 3-Year-Old Open Trail aboard HP Prime Time, sired by VS Flatline and out of Goodygoody Gumdrops. HP Prime Time is owned by Kaleena Weakly, Shelbyville, Illinois and earned $2,559.14 for the win in the class of 27 entries.
In the biggest Trail class in the show so far, Bruce Vickery guided Extremely Good Stuff, sired by Extremely Hot Chips and out of Shes Got The Goodstuff, to a win in the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Open Trail with 65 entries. Extremely Good Stuff (Rooster) is owned by Lauren Crivelli Stanley, Visalia, California.
“We were so proud of Rooster yesterday, he really stepped it up and showed great. Bruce and Rooster made the tough course look effortless as he floated over the poles,” Stanley said. “He has so much expression with his ears it makes it hard to look away whenever he’s showing. He’s been doing Trail for less than a year so it’s beyond our wildest dreams!”
Elizabeth Rinder and I Dance In The Dark won the 35-entry In the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Non-Pro Trail, collecting $1,550.35.
Following the conclusion of Trail, competition in the Super Duty turned to Youth Hunter Under Saddle classes. Olivia Tordoff won the Youth Hunter Under Saddle riding Too Blazing Cool. Me Myself And Sky captured the top prize in the Novice Youth Hunter Under Saddle with Abigail Berry, Zionsville, Missouri in the irons. Camille Kennedy, Seattle, Washington and her show partner, My Bentley bested 10 other entries to win the 9 & Under Walk-Trot Hunter Under Saddle.
Carli Pitts captured a win in Green Pattern Hunter Under Saddle aboard No Good Deed, owned by Alex Reisinger, Evansville, Indiana.
In the Ford Truck Arena Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle classes filled the day’s competition.
Drew DeBuhr had everyone talking with his dual win in the 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure and 2-Year-Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure aboard Mr Zippo Good Bar, sired by Zippos Mr Good Bar and out of Krymsuns Only Chip. They were the unanimous winners in the Intermediate class and DeBuhr said standing in the line awaiting results he thought that there wasn’t much he could have improved upon.
“I was really happy with our ride,” he said. “He is a really cool horse and he loves to show.”
The red roan stallion nicknamed Peterbuilt is hot off wins in both the 2-Year-Old Open and Intermediate Open Western Pleasure classes at the tom Powers Futurity.
“Peterbilt is different than any other horse that I have ever trained and shown before because he great disposition, he looks forward to going to work, he has a great front leg and top line,” DeBuhr said. “You can’t beat that combination.”
Linda Neece, Argyle, Texas, teamed with For One Night Only, sired by Invitation Only and out of Radical Zippette, to win the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure in a very tough class of 26 entries.
“I thought he was really, good,” she said after the judging was complete. “We had some traffic to go through but I was really happy with how well we did maneuvering through it.”
Neece said For One Night Only is a bit quirky.
“He is in his own little world, but as long as you get him mentally ready he will be good,” she explained.
In other Western Pleasure competition, Kristin Galyean teamed with VS Lady in Red to capture wins in both the Open and Intermediate Non-Pro Western Pleasure Maturity. It was a big day for Galyean and VS Lady In Red as they also collected a win in the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure, earning $1,134.96 in the 13-entry class.
Casey Willis won the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Open Western Pleasure for Masterson Farms, owners of KM Suddenly So Easy, collecting $1,272.16.
In 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure competition, Hillary Roberts won the BCF 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure aboard Johnnie On The Spot, collecting $1,468.25 and Kari Craft piloted Gone Viral to a win in the Intermediate division of that same class, earning $1,420.50.
In Hunter Under Saddle action, Not Just Anyhoo captured the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle with owner Rebekah Kazakevicius in the irons. Angela Fox piloted The Rusty Fox to a win in the BCF 2-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle class of 10 entries. They were also the winners of the BCF 2-Year-Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, taking home a total of $2,281.71. Sharnai Thompson won the BCF 3-Year-Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle aboard Because Shes Worth It, owned by Thomas A Lukenbill, Chino Hills, California. Sleep ALilbit Longer captured $1,955.65 for winning the BCF 4-6 Year-Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle with Carrie Ann Geldner, Summerfield, North Carolina in the irons.
Rusty Green closed out the day’s competition in the Ford Truck Arena by riding Hereicomeagian, owned by Katherine Tobin, to a win in the Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Open Western Pleasure.
Tuesday in the Mustang Arena the morning was devoted to Showmanship and Halter competition. Hot Nuff To Glow and Alissa Boersen, Zeeland, Michigan won the Novice Youth Showmanship while Mallory Vroegh and Krymsun Belle, hot off their Showmanship win at the AQHA Youth World Show, bested 40 other entries to win the Youth Showmanship. Ted Turned led the winners in both the World Conformation Horse Association Performance Halter Geldings (Mytesly, owned by Travis/Johnna Dobbs, Jonesboro, Arkansas) and Mares (Still A Kid, owned by Sally Ann Sullivan, Tulsa, Oklahoma). The Borne Legacy won the WCHA Performance Halter Stallions class. He is owned by Chavez Enterprises and was shown by Jason Smith.
Horsemanship classes drew big numbers on Tuesday. With 39 in Novice Youth Horsemanship Isabella SJ Himes, Bristol, Indiana, collected a big win aboard Assets Miss Reba. Cori Cansdale, Laguna Beach, California, teamed with Promotional Asset to win the Youth Horsemanship class with 43 entries.
Competition in the Mustang Arena concluded on Tuesday with the BCF Color Non-Pro Longe Line competition. Sleeping On The Job, sired by Too Sleepy To Zip earned $1,495.50 for winning the class of 16 with Shilo Eggers, Humboldt, Kansas, on the line.
