The Virginia Quarter Horse Association’s Spring Breakout/Dave Higgins Memorial Show is in full swing at the Virginia Horse Park in Lexington. The show got started Thursday with Halter, Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation classes. Today featured Ranch competition followed by Western Riding, Horsemanship and Western Pleasure. Judges include Holly Hover, Clint Fullerton, Marilyn Randall, Kenny Hall, Bonnie Jo Clay and Sara Bradley.
The circuit’s main event, the Hylton Maiden 3-Year-Old & Over Western Pleasure is scheduled will be presented tomorrow evening. A total of 11 horses have paid to enter the class that boasts a total purse of well over $50,000, where the winner is guaranteed to take home $25,000. Additional bonus money will be awarded to the highest placing Intermediate and Limited riders. The deadline to late enter the class (for an additional fee) has been extended to noon on Saturday, according to Linda Falls, show secretary and Cash said he knows of several more trainers/owners still planning to enter.
