Youth Art Show

Youth Art Show.ashxThe 2014 Youth Art Show opens on December 3 at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.

The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum Youth Art Show begins on December 3. The public is invited to view artwork created by middle and high school students from Region 16. To prepare for the show, students learned about the role the American Quarter Horse played in the history of the United States. Each student then created artwork that depicted those lessons, along with a 300-word essay describing what they learned and how it inspired their artwork.

More than 200 students participated in the show, but only the top 150 pieces were chosen to be hung in the Hall of Fame, based on the quality of artwork, as well as the essay. The show is also an interactive exhibit with a video lesson from Western artist Edgar Sotelo on how to draw an American Quarter Horse.

The student’s artwork could be based around: rodeos and racing; transportation and horse power; ranchers and cattle drives; or U.S. military horses throughout American history. The student who wins “The Best in Show” will have his or her artwork displayed in the museum for one year. In addition, the teacher of the winning student will win a free field trip to the Hall of Fame for the 2014-15 school year.

The participating students and teachers are encouraged to attend the opening reception, which is the evening of December 9. At the event, the winners will be announced and the cash prizes will be awarded. The reception and exhibit were made possible by the ongoing support of the Josephine Anderson Charitable Trust.

The show is open December 3, 2014 – January 3, 2015. Admission to the Hall of Fame and the Youth Art Show is free to AQHA members. Find general admission prices and museum hours at www.quarterhorsemuseum.com.
