Thirty five new youth world champions were crowned this week in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the American Quarter Horse Association hosted its annual Youth World Show. Exhibitors from across the globe flocked to the sooner state to compete for a coveted world show globe.

Kicking things off this year was a veteran to the world show stage. Kamiah McGrath and her long-time show partner, They Call Me Jake won the Level 3 Western Riding. The Argyle, Texas native also rode her bay gelding by The Sports Machine and out of Zippos Annie Lee to a score of 228 to claim the victory.

In the Level 2 portion of the Western Riding Jayna Lagace of Higganum, Connecticut rode Platinum Sunsation, a grey gelding by Potential Investment and out of Sunsational Lollipop to the title with a score of 216.

Olivia Tordoff of Powell, Ohio left Oklahoma City with not one but two gold globes. On Wednesday Tordoff rode Sterling Version, a 21-year-old grey gelding by Good Version and out of Miss Roman TIC to a world title in Level 3 Horsemanship. She returned to the Norick Arena on Thursday aboard Too Blazin Cool, a 2011 bay gelding by Blazing Hot and out of Cool Krymsun Lady to take the gold globe in Level 3 Hunter Under Saddle. The title in the Level 2 portion of the class went to Hoo U Lukin At and Kalli Bohach of Lancaster, Ohio.

Once of the best win celebrations of the show was when Mallory Vroegh of Granger, Iowa and her partner, Krymsun Belle were left standing in the arena.

“I was just so excited I screamed really, really loud,” Vroegh recalled. “I thought I had a really good pattern, but honestly I didn’t think I would win. There are no words to describe it, just utter shock and excitement.”

A total of 131 entries competed in the class and exhibitors had to perform everything from trotting pull turns to backing rollbacks before the class was over. In the Level 2 portion Deanna Green of Pilot Point, Texas took home the title with her long-time show partner, BlazinMyTroublesAway.

Callie Huston of Argyle, Texas bested 100 other exhibitors to take the golden globe in Hunt Seat Equitation. Huston and her 2005 chestnut mare, Colossal Asset by Pass The Asset performed two patterns as well as rail work before being crowned the World Champion. The Level 2 title went to Alysia Nielson of Las Vegas, Nevada aboard BMQ The Jig Is Up.

Callie Huston’s Texas team partner Hayley Riddle took the Western Pleasure pen by storm when she won both the Level 2 and Level 3 portions of the class aboard her 2011 bay roan gelding, No Doubt Im Somethin by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of Coosa Peach.

“It felt really good! Today he was very honest in the show pen and did his job perfectly and it didn’t matter if I had him on the rail or pulled him off the rail,” Riddle said. “He is 6 years old and I like to call him Michael Jackson because he’s a thriller! My plans for the rest of the year right now is to show him at the Congress.”

Over her youth career Natalia Devencenty of Pueblo, Colorado has come very close to winning a world title, but this year paired with her 2002 bay gelding, Chex Is The Choice, she was finally the last one standing. The pair beat out 115 entries to take home the title.

“Being the last one standing in the arena has been a dream of mine as well as many others, and to have that dream become a reality was absolutely surreal,” Devencenty said. “Chex gives his 100% all of the time, he works so hard and deserves every good thing that comes his way. He is so talented and has the biggest heart. Being able to give him what he has worked so hard for was amazing. Even since I got Chex my goal was to win for him and I couldn’t be happier to be given the opportunity to show this incredible horse. Chex is my best friend and he means the world to me so being the last one standing there with him was an incredible feeling!”

The Level 2 winner int heat class was Isabella Himes of Bristol, Indiana and Assets Miss Reba.

The Ford Youth World is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse exhibitors ages 18 and under around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. More than 3,340 entries from the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and Luxembourg competed for 35 world championships and 33 Adequan® Level 2 championship titles at this year’s event.
