NSBA honors horses, individuals at awards ceremony

The National Snaffle Bit Association paused on Sunday night after a day full of Showmanship, Performance Halter and Trail competition at its 2020 World Championship Show, to honor several horses and individuals.

VS Goodride, owned by Brenda Gower, of Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada, was honored as the 2019 NSBA Horse of the Year. The 2015 bay roan stallion by VS Flatline and out of Goody Goody Gumdrops, is an AQHA and NSBA World Champion as well as a Congress Champion with 109 AQHA points and earnings topping $17,554.53 in Western Pleasure, Western Riding and Trail events.

The association also honored new Hall of Fame inductees: Whatscookingoodlookn, in the Show Horse category; and Radical Rodder and Shesa Hot Cookie, in the Breeding Horse category; and Alan Mitchels in the Individual category.

Whatscookngoodlookin, a 2008 bay mare by A Good Machine out of A Cooki For Certain, is owned by Capital Quarter Horses. She is the only horse in AQHA history to win an AQHA World Championship in all five divisions of the Western Pleasure – Junior, Senior, Amateur, Select Amateur, and Youth. Whatscookngoodlookin logged over 200 AQHA points in Western Pleasure, 326 NSBA points and $119,795 in NSBA earnings. She was the NSBA Horse of the Year in 2011.

Radical Rodder, a 1991 bay stallion by Hotrodders Jet Set and out of Flashy Bar Flower, was owned by Diane Chilton. He was the 1998 AQHA World Champion in Senior Western Pleasure and sired 19 World Champions and 20 Reserve World Champions. Of his 1,025 foals, 562 were performers, logging over 66,364 AQHA points and $696,892 in NSBA earnings.

Shesa Hot Cookie, a 1990 sorrel mare by Zips Chocolate Chip and out of Becky Melody, was owned by Gumz Farms at the time of her death. She earned 228 AQHA points in Western Pleasure and $24,151 in NSBA earnings. Her offspring have earned over $129,447 in NSBA earnings, earned world championships and AQHA Superior awards in Western Pleasure, and include Its A Southern Thing, Invite Me For Cookies, Heza Hot Cookie and Shes Suddenly Hot, to name a few.

Allen Mitchels, of Michigan City, Indiana, served as NSBA president in 2016. He is carded with the NRHA, AQHA, NCHA, NSBA and NRCHA. His work with the NSBA includes participation in the judge’s recertification process, testing procedure and animal rights activities.

Jeff Long, Nancy Ditty, Aaron Moses & Carl Yamber

The NSBA also welcomed Jeff Long of Siler City, North Carolina; Nancy Ditty of Ocala, Florida; Aaron Moses of Pilot Point, Texas; and Carl Yamber of Roberta, Georgia, into the Quarter Million Dollar Rider Club. A NSBA rider is inducted in to the Quarter Million Dollar Club when he/she has obtained earnings totaling $250,000 or more. All NSBA Earnings count in a rider’s earnings from 1984 through the present year. This is for all riders, including Non-Pros. 

Bill and Cindy Cosentino, of Omaha, Nebraska, were awarded with the Jack Benson Award.Named for the late NSBA member Jack Benson, the award is presented annually to an individual who unselfishly gives his or her time to promote NSBA and its mission and create greater interest in the pleasure horse industry. This award has been presented since 1989.Tim Kimura, Oak Point, Texas, was presented with the association’s 2020 Impact Award and Patty Campbell, Whitesboro, Texas, was honored as the 2020 Leo Barbera President’s Award recipient. Jacqueline Potwora, Eugene, Oregon, was named the 2020 NSBA Youth of the Year.
