Leading equine photographer Kelly Barnes Pella passes

Well-known equine photographer and graphic designer Kelly Barnes Pella, most recently of Ocala, Florida, has passed away following a brief medical emergency.

For decades Kelly photographed many of the industry’s top show and breeding horses and designed advertising for nearly all the industry’s equine publications and, in fact, she was the photographer for InStride Edition’s upcoming May issue.

In 1984 she launched Kelly Graphics, specializing in equine, sports, family, wildlife, scenery, product photography, graphic design and printing services and promotion.

Kelly is well known for her annual Stallion Calendar and for several years, she and her sister published Lope N Lead magazine, focusing on Halter and Performance show horses.

In addition to Florida, Kelly also lived for some time in Utah and spent time in Australia, where she enjoyed photographing wildlife and youth sporting events.

Erin Boatwright, of Corona Del Mar, California, has been a long-time Kelly Graphics client and a friend to Kelly.

“Kelly had the ability to get that one shot that would take your breath away every time,” she said. “She was a true artist and even lovelier person.”

Jane Backes, of Dallas, Texas, said Kelly photographed many of her horses over the years and described her as “a true artist who will never be equaled.”

Kerry Bradac, of Ocala, Florida, has known Kelly for over 15 years.

“She was more than a photographer to so many of us,” she said. “She was our friend and to many, she was family.”

Information about services will be provided as they become available.
