Sloww Motion

Timing is everything.

At least that’s what Dr. Candice Hall and Dr. Cory Seebach, of Black Creek, British Columbia, believe. It was true when they purchased leading Western Pleasure sire Machine Made back in 2010.

“We went from ‘love at first sight’ to an extensive education in breeding and bloodlines,” Candice admits.

And now, it’s happened again. This time with their most recent acquisition, Sloww Motion, a 2016 brown stallion by Invitation Only and out of Radical Zippette.

“Seeing this beautiful colt lope around (at Gil Galyean Quarter Horses in Purcell, Oklahoma) gave us ‘that feeling again,’” Candice said. “Life is about being in the moment and making memories. Prepare for the ride.”

Invitation Only has been a lifelong favorite sire for Hall and her husband. In 2008 their gelding, The Uninvited Guest, became their first American Quarter Horse Association World Champion with Washington trainer, Kristy McCann. They also owned Only Invite The Best, a buckskin mare by Invitation Only and out of Zip N Therapy (the dam of RL Best Of Sudden). She won a Congress Championship in Performance Halter Mares, placed in the Top 10 in the Congress Masters Western Pleasure as a 2-year-old and again in Senior Western Pleasure.

Two show mares Hall and Seebach have admired for years – Only A Breeze and Only Ever After, full sisters owned by Capital Quarter Horses – are both also daughters of Invitation Only.

In fact, Hall and Seebach love these mares so much, they bought both of their Machine Made foals last year.

“We have daughters of our beloved Machine Made that we would like to breed and carry on the great western pleasure legacy he is building,” Cory said. “The past few years we have struggled with the decision of what stud to breed them to. With Gil Galyean’s guidance, we feel this big, gorgeous brown son of Invy has the potential to be the perfect cross for Machine Made daughters.”

But before there is serious talk of Sloww Motion (Baker) becoming a breeding horse, there are big plans for him in the show arena.

He is slated to make his debut in the Congress Masters Western Pleasure with Gil Galyean in the saddle.

“I believe Baker possesses the two characteristics that are so hard to find,”  Galyean said. “He has great movement and he is a beautiful horse. There has never been a day that I have ridden him that I didn’t like this horse.”

Cory Seebach and Only Invite The Best

Hall and Seebach purchased Sloww Motion from Garry Dale Mease, of Waynesville, North Carolina.

His dam, Radical Zippette, is also the dam of 2015 National Snaffle Bit Association Horse of the Year, For One Night Only (also sired by Invitation Only), who has recorded $135,000 in earnings 370 AQHA points. Her other offspring include performers Radical Moon (by Only In The Moonlite) and Were Talkin Easy (by A Dream Remembered). Radical Zippette’s dam, Are You Zipped, produced foals that earned over 7,500 AQHA points including RA Undisputed, Are You Charlie and All Of A Sudden.

“A strong maternal line of performers is so important for a sire,” Candice said.  “Just as Gypsys Little Image (the dam of Machine Made) was a great show mare, the dam line of Sloww Motion also impressed us.”

After the Masters Western Pleasure, Hall and Seebach hope Sloww Motion will go on to have a long and lucrative show career….and start breeding some mares.

“He may stand to a few hand-picked mares next spring to begin his breeding career,” Candice said.  “Our goal is to preserve and improve the integrity of the best western pleasure bloodlines in the industry with exceptionally pretty horses that are conformationally correct with good movement, cadence and trainability so that they may continue on to a show career in all-around events and be enjoyed by amateurs like ourselves.”

Candice Hall and Made By J

One Machine Made daughter Seebach and Hall are especially excited about crossing on Sloww Motion is Made By J.

The 2012 bay mare, out of Dark Jasmine, won the Hylton Maiden 3-Year-Old & Over Western Pleasure class in 2015 and was Reserve Congress Champion last year in both the Maturity Open Western Pleasure Futurity Junior Western Riding. She is a National Snaffle Bit Association World Champion and Made By J has earned numerous AQHA Open and Amateur Western Pleasure points and many futurity championships.

Hall and Seebach also own Hawaiian Honey, a 2013 bay mare by Machine Made out of Hotroddin Krymsun. She is a multiple AQHA point earner, Top five at the Quarter Horse Congress and futurity champion and Candice and Cory can’t wait to cross her on Sloww Motion.

“The RL Best of Sudden daughter crossed with Machine Made – as in 2016 NSBA Horse of the Year Lexus Made Lady – has been a very popular and successful cross,” Cory said. “We are certain that by adding the Invitation Only bloodlines to these Machine Made daughters, combining the most popular western pleasure bloodlines, we can carry on the legacy of many great sires.”

Machine Made is a Reserve Quarter Horse Congress Champion and has won Championship titles at the AQHA and NSBA World shows. His foals have also won World Championship titles in Western Pleasure, Western Riding and Trail. Machine Made is the sire of back-to-back NSBA Horse of the Year title winners. Made N The Shade, a 2014 bay gelding out of Mistys Version, is the 2017 NSBA Horse of the Year. He has over 80 AQHA points, more than $40,000 in NSBA earnings and was the 2016 AQHA World Champion in 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure. Lexus Made Lady, a 2013 bay mare out of RLs Lexus Lady won the NSBA Horse of the Year title in 2016. She is a multiple Quarter Horse Congress Champion, and Reserve Champion, NSBA World Champion and she won numerous futurity classes. She has also logged over $57,000 in earnings.

Gil Galyean and Machine Made

Sometimes, Hall and Seebach can hardly believe everything that has happened in the last eight years.

The couple lives on beautiful Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. Every time they travel to a horse show they take a ferry or multiple flights to get there.

Candice owns a busy small animal veterinary clinic in Courtenay, BC. Her caseload includes surgery, internal medicine and dentistry. She enjoys riding her ‘fun horses’ in the evenings at home, playing on the trail obstacles, practcing her lead changes, riding bridleless, and doing agility with the couples’ border collies.

“Work hard, play hard” is the motto of Candice and Cory, a dentist, who owns Beyond Beautiful Smiles, a cosmetic dental practice.

“When we began this journey in 2010 with our purchase of Machine Made from the Rosciti family,” Candice said, “we never imagined where this adventure would lead.”

Now, their journey may lead them on another path, with the ownership of Baker.

“He is named ‘Baker’ after Baker Mayfield, Heisman trophy winner quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners,” Cory explained. “Baker began his college football career as a walk on and was selected first overall in April 2018 the night of the NFL entry draft.  Team Galyean was at George’s having the famous crazy wings and watching the draft. Becky (Galyean) followed tradition that night by putting a dollar bill on the wall and writing ‘BAKER’ on it.  Machine Made had to have a Canadian five-dollar bill as we don’t have ones in Canada.”
