Taylah Ogilvie of Australia heads to her first Youth World

Q16_2408Age: 18

Family: Mother, Tracey Woods; Father, Charles Ogilvie; Brother, Dylan Ogilvie

Education: Glenella State School from preschool to grade seven ( 2003-2010); 2015 graduate of Pioneer High school.

Career Goals: Next year I am going to study for my certificate III and IV in fitness. I became interested in fitness when I was living in Victoria with my trainers, Kelly Couzner and Jesse Mathrick. I started going to the gym nearly every day with them and I loved it, so when I moved back home I just kept going all the time and now I can’t stand to miss a day.

First Rides: My mum showed horses for many years before I was born, so growing up I was always around horses.

First Shows: I started showing when I was 8 years old, just competing in local beginner shows.

Trainer: Mathrick Show Horses – I show under the guidance of Jesse Mathrick and his partner, Kelly Couzner, and alongside an awesome team of youth and amateur riders. U.S. Trainer: While in America, I\ am showing with the assistance of Amanda Specht.

AF1B0875Current Show Partner: This year I have been lucky enough to lease A Krymsun Chevy (Dolly) from Brenda Ackerman for the AQHA Youth World Show. I will compete in Showmanship, Trail and Performance Halter Mares with the 2009 sorrel mare by OHK Krymsun Zip and out of Annies Lil Rodder. At home I show Winderadeen Feel The Heat (Chilli), a 9-year-old chestnut gelding by HF Somethin Hot out of Winderadeen Lisajet. We show in all events.

Share something funny/interesting about your horse: Chilli likes to stick is tongue out when getting photos taken and is a clean freak.

Biggest Show Accomplishment: The most amazing winning experience I have had was this year at the Australian Quarter Horse Association National Show where I won the Youth 15-18 Western Horsemanship. Over the last two years, while showing Chilli, I have had so many amazing accomplishments from winning state and national titles and being able to show in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. It’s been a truly incredible journey.

Biggest Accomplishment Outside The Ring: I received an academic scholarship when I graduated primary school so throughout high school I was a scholarship holder.

My Motivation: Definitely the connection I have with my horses, I just enjoy being around them so much. I also just love the reward of being able so showcase my horses at shows after putting so much time and effort into them.

Favorite Show: The Australian National Show.

Q16_4040Favorite Class to Watch: Western Pleasure. I just love being able to watch a neat and polished horses lope around the pen. It’s just truly incredible to watch knowing all the hard work that has been put in.

Favorite Class to Show: Horsemanship.

Most people would be surprised to learn that I…: have a tattoo of the Mathrick Show horses logo.

Interests Outside of Horses: If I am not with my horses I’m either eating, sleeping or at the gym.

My Hero: Definitely my mum for standing by my side through everything and always supporting me. I am so lucky to have her and the rest of my show family always pushing me and inspiring me to do well.
